Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 offences at the judicial center on recently

A man who spiked candy with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.

The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on recently.

Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The accused was held in detention before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court Ruben had played this game with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She said the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated materials including lubricant, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepson notified the authorities about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben went on to conduct the "treat game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she added.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The legal representative stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the police once more.

She stated the man then played the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
